Why do we like this?
Buenos Aires quartet Calendar have created an instantly likeable, catchy slab of indie disco rock. Super-producer Gordon Raphael (known globally for his more sparse productions with The Strokes and Regina Spektor) has helped the band in getting a big sound on their upcoming debut full-length Bombs of Gold. Textured with swirling guitars, the album creates an ominous atmosphere that recalls dark overlords of rock such as The Cure or Joy Division.
"Ass Holes" is a refreshingly gutsy first single off of that album, from the title to the abundance of guitar lead, which takes up almost as much time as the vocals. Melodic and bouncy throughout, it shows a lot of promise.
Keep an eye out for Bombs of Gold, dropping in November 2010!
