Over the past two months, I've had a few artists in constant rotation: Robert Ellis, Those Darlins, and Caitlin Rose. In a way, they're all sort of related, but we need to back up to when I was visiting Nashville to connect all the dots.
While there, I had met Caitlin, unaware of her talents, though I knew she was a songwriter of some caliber. Some time later, back in Detroit, I stumbled on Robert Ellis, rather organically. Through searching his videos, this performance with him and Rose popped up, at which point I was like, "There's that girl!" Thus, I dove in to Caitlin Rose and was instantly blown away. It's her lyrics, the quality of her songwriting, but most of all her voice. There's a tone to it that harks back to the female country greats of yore. Its got a retro ring to it without sounding forced or entirely intentional, and her effortless delivery is as strong and as solid as her distinctive style.
Like Ellis, Rose began to pursue her dreams as an artist at 19 years old -- a huge risk for some, but these two had massive talent to back their passion. Rose has done well to prove she's got the gumption to make it in a big way. Recently stepping off a string of shows with Dawes, her latest albumThe Stand Inis slowly turning Caitlin Rose into a household name. One of my favorites off the album is "When I'm Gone," and having played it a few times in bars around Detroit, there's always an inquisitive ear highly interested to know who it is they are hearing.
To get back to connecting music dots, I gave Rose a follow on her Facebook and it was through her gushing over Those Darlins that cued me in to their equally impressive music. Thanks for that, Caitlin! So, that's my story and if you'd like to hear more of Caitlin's, give her a follow via Facebook and scope her website for more details.
