Why do we like this?
Given her immense talent, Sydney artist Caitlin Park has been under-appreciated in my eyes -- especially given her significant resume. Since the release of her celebrated debut album Milk Annual back in 2011, she's toured with the likes of Active Child, First Aid Kit, and James Vincent McMorrow, and has been invited to attend the CMJ Music Marathon in New York. She's now putting the final touches on her second album, with the LP's first single appearing a couple of days back.
"Hold Your Gaze" is a particularly stirring release, one that highlights Park's considerable skills as an artist. She's always shown a tendency to consider a track's complete structure, and nothing's changed here. The layering is thoughtfully crafted, and she uses each of the elements (percussion, vocals, guitar) equally rather than focusing on one, giving the track a satisfying completeness. This is a great example of how modern folk music should be made.
Keep an eye out for The Sleeper which is out on May 2 (through Create/Control) for you all to appreciate!
