There are so many influences within Cadenza's "No Drama." The title track of an EP of the same name, the U.K. based producer finds a balance between grime, dancehall, and hip-hop that teeters into full-on mental territory.
Featuring the U.K.'s Avelino, who flows with precision sharper than a high-resolution image, "No Drama" is no nonsense: bolting right out of the gate with gargantuan levels of attitude as each layer of lyrical eloquence stacks on top of one another. The track rips through any preconception of grime mainstream audiences have had up until this point.
It's as if the oddball, nerd tendencies of Odd Future has been slammed together with a cockney aesthetic wielded by an afro-centric samurai who slays his competitors and not only demands to be heard, but demands the respect he deserves by a culture who largely fears the grime lifestyle. And with Cadenza as the executor of this strong will, "No Drama" is a statement.
