Why do we like this?
"Thank You" is the first taste from Extinction Level Event 2, Busta Rhymes' forthcoming sequel to 1998's Extinction Level Event: The Final World Front. The industry veteran has signed with Lil' Wayne's Cash Money label, and if this track is anything to go by, it looks like he's finally returning to his glory days.
Produced by Busta himself and sampling songstress Alicia Myers' "I Want To Thank You," this is an all star affair, with Kanye West, Lil' Wayne, and Q-Tip all getting involved. While West and Wayne don't actually rap (they just drop a few ad-libs here and an introduction), it's the master class put on by Busta and Q-Tip that makes this one shine.
Busta appears rejuvenated, rapping fast and precise like back in the day, with all four of his verses top notch, but it's Q-Tip's wordplay that gets me jacked. Truly one of the greats, the Tribe Called Quest Member hasn't done much of late, but like Busa Busss, he's in vintage form on this one, spitting rhymes with venom and wit.
