Why do we like this?
Obviously, indie pop has been having something of an 80s revival these past few years. A revival that's ranged from awesome (Cut Copy) to less awesome (not Cut Copy). But listening to "Into The Wilderness," the first single off Burning Hearts' new EP, I'm struck by the band's sophisticated approach to a throwback sound.
It sounds, really, like Nico scoring a John Hughes movie. The low female singing voice mixed with dreamy synth-filled hooks is immediately catchy and incredibly listenable. "Into the Wilderness" especially enhances that dream-like quality of the sound, with poetic references to the band's homeland of Finland.
