Following on from recently released single "Louder" UK artist Brook Baili has dropped her debut EP Phases. The five track collection is a mixture of downtempo electronica and modern R&B vibes brought together by Baili's ethereal vocals. Produced by rising beat maker SAMPL (Skepta, Shystie and Ms Banks), Phases is a great start to Baili's musical journey that you'll have on repeat.
Of the five tracks it's the opener, "Haunted," that sticks out as my favorite. An icy piano laced number with cracking 808s and an 80s guitar riff, the track slowly creeps up on you, highlighting Baili's incredible vocals. Speaking about the inspiration for her Phases EP, North Londoner Baili says;
“I wanted to tell stories based on where I’m at in my life right now and all the experiences that got me to this point. I wanted to capture the various phases we go through in life – highs, lows, love, joy, and pain – in my music. Sonically, this project is a reflection of my personality and me expressing myself in the way I want musically, which I haven’t been able to do previously until this point."
“We all go through different phases in life, where we feel different emotions, and when creating this project I wanted to share some of the different phases I have experienced. The project has two sides, the light side and the dark side, two contrasting sounds that when together, complement each other into completion. The light cannot exist without the dark, which is why I wanted to create music for both moods."
