In the endless search for the "song of the summer" we often are mired by good versus catchy. But what is a summer song? What does it embody and project?
As Paul Cantor recently wrote on Medium, "A summertime song, at least in the traditional sense, should emote and elicit thoughts and feelings one associates with, well, summery things." I couldn't agree more. Summer songs, oddly enough, are about summer.
For me the Oklahoma power-pop trio Broncho exemplify what a summer song should sound like with their single "Class Historian" from their upcoming release, Just Enough Hip To Be Woman, out on Dine Alone Records September 18. Simple, infectious, and bound to make you want to leave the confines of work or your home behind. "Class Historian" has that restless stir that makes you want to leap from your obligations and dance away the stresses of life. If this song is any indication of what the record sounds like, count this guy in.
Make sure to catch Broncho on tour with Brand New and Joyce Manor later this year!
