Jacob Ithurburn returns with a stunning and stripped down performance of Brolly’s latest in “Things That Keep Me Up At Night.” Over a year since the single “I Need Heaven” and more than two years since 2014’s Wolfe EP, this single is a sign of something great to come with Brolly’s next release this spring.
When I saw Brolly in the Twin Cities two years ago, on tour for Wolfe, it was one of the most emotional shows I’ve ever attended. I sat near the stage and wiped tears off my face after every song. That’s also what I often end up doing after extended listens to Brolly at home.
Ithurburn’s distinct and warm vocals pull hard at one’s heartstrings, speaking of love and loss as a part of life, in combination with passionate melodies and echoing instrumentals. This music is made for your bittersweet, melancholy moments. But I was most heartbroken to hear from the band that Wolfe was likely their last release, and last effort as a band.
Singer-songwriter Jacob Ithurburn however, has rebooted the effort and found success in the simplicity of going solo. Catch this Northern Californian on tour supporting Benjamin Francis Leftwich in the U.S. and Canada this February, and keep an eye out for more music from Brolly in 2017.
