Released as a single off Brockhampton's 2017 album Saturation, the first of three full length albums of the same name, "Face" delivers a slow groove that still gets you rocking back and forth.
Lacking any ostentatious percussion, the sound here circles back around to the basics. And it's a home-run. Verses from Dom McLennon, Matt Champion, and Ameer Vann intermingle atop the subtle chimes of a xylophone. The deep abrasive voices of the male rappers find a buttery neo-soul counterpart from Joba for the chorus. "Tell me what you're waiting for, hun / I just wanna love ya, just wanna hold ya, never would lie to you / Tell me what you're waiting for, hun."
And it's as simple as that. You want the track to keep going, the melancholy and swagger fusing together to form some self-satisfying amalgam of longing.
