Why do we like this?
Brightly have made themselves known to Australian music lovers in the past through the standout single "Preflight Nerves," which received attention from revered figures like Gotye and The Pirate Bay. The release of "World War" (taken from forthcoming EP The Greylings) only serves to re-enforce Brightly's position as Australian indie pop masters, and contrary to the song title, it radiates happiness.
Since April's gorgeous, electronica-inspired Beginnings & Endings, Brightly have been continuing to develop their unique style of pop, deciding to "ignore computers and synthesizers and vocoders" for this latest song. The result is a well-considered mix of clever chord changes and sensitive musicianship coupled with the genuine joy and excitement that Brightly have come to be known for.
The variety in Brightly's work, while always retaining a sense of earnest, honest indie folk, has always been a source of interest of followers of the band, and their forthcoming EP will be no different. Out later in the year, it is certainly one to look out for.
