It's been some time since we heard from Melbourne's Brighter Later, whose gorgeous debut album Wolves was a favorite of mine early last year. Now the brain-child of multi-instrumentalist/vocalist Jay Kranz is ready to re-emerge, with a brand new album scheduled for release toward the beginning of 2015.
Teaming up with regular collaborator Virginia Bott (who contributed heavily on Wolves), Kranz has released the new album's first single. "Brace" is a team effort, with numerous musicians adding to the track, including a string arrangement from Lower Spectrum's Ned Beckley. The result is a ridiculously stirring single, complete with ghostly instrumental arrangement and Kranz's typically poignant vocals. With so many people assisting, this could have turned into an overly complicated track, but the balance is carried out to perfection.
