Bree Tranter is a name that will already be familiar to some, with the singer/songwriter starting out as member of one of Australia's most well-loved bands -- The Middle East (which broke up in 2011). Since then, the North Queensland native has relocated to Sydney, where she's been an integral part of Matt Corby's touring band, contributing keys, flute, and vocals. Now, music fans will be able to appreciate Bree's solo work, with her debut EP Jaws due for release in the coming months.
"Wounded Love" is actually her second release, with the typically folky "Winter" coming out back in 2011. Her new work really sees her differentiate herself as an artist (the aforementioned projects have all centred around the folk genre), delivering a captivating electronically charged dream pop single. While the sultry electronics and keys are expertly arranged, her hypnotic vocals are left exposed. There aren't a lot of artists who'd feel comfortable attempting this, or have the voice to pull it off, but Bree Tranter is not one of them.
I really respect when an artist steps outside their comfort zone, especially when the results are as stunning as "Wounded Love."
