Still Waters, the new album from French producer Breakbot, is dropping tomorrow on Ed Banger Records and it's one of the releases I have been waiting for the most. And for good reason -- last album By Your Side (2012) was dope and what already leaked from the new album is just as dope.
One of the tracks, "Man Without Shadow," has been premiered on Billboard earlier today and it's a little taste of what's to come. As usual, Thibaut Berland (aka Breakbot) enlisted the services of French singer Irfane for the vocals. This track is pretty different from Breakbot previous work though:
“That’s one of the songs that we worked on the most,” T told Billboard over the phone. “We have so many versions of it. The first versions were uptempo, around 130 bpm. We were pretty happy about it, but we thought we could do something more. So we tried to slow it down. Now it’s one of the slow jams on the album -- it’s not the usual Breakbot funky disco vibe.”
“It’s about our incapacity to really grasp the moment most of the time,” Irfane added. “It’s a metaphor of this guy living in the past but forgetting about living his present.”
