Why do we like this?
I've kept up with Martin Crane's musical project Brazos since its early inception in Austin, TX. He had a stripped down band that played his songs all over the city, and eventually recorded the full length record Phosphorescent Blues. Although that album was solid, I still thought he had something better waiting to be recorded. He has since moved to New York and established a new band which suits his renewed sense of songwriting just right.
This first single, "How the Ranks Was Won," proves my theory about what was lurking within him. Saltwater is a fully realized album of some great art-pop music, but it still hooks you in with your typical indie rock styling. I highly suggest checking out this album from Brazos, which comes out May 28 on Dead Oceans.
