When I first heard a Frank Ocean song I was living in NoHo. It was Autumn 2010 and as I was staring at The Hills from an 11th floor balcony inside NoHo14. I got chills down my spine. It had been a long time before music had that affect on me. Obviously, I will never forget that day, or that time.
I still remember, just a few months later, listening to his mixtape: "Nostalgia," and wondering 'where artists like Ocean had been all these years.' I guess he filled a void that had long been missing.
Today, as I pressed play on Brandyn Burnette's latest release: "Inner Child," I ironically got a nostalgic feeling from that time.
To me, LA has its very own, very identifiable swag, and for some odd reason, this is a lot like it. I guess we all have ways of identifying with the places we've been to. Music has a lot to do with that process, as well as food and friends and good times.
Anyhow, that swag is simply a more chilled out version of anything out there. A vibe that isn't concerned with anything that's happening in the material world. It is only concerned with the winds and the sun and the way the earth smells. Concerned with good energy at all times.
If you want to enjoy a mellow sound and unwind from a long day, then hit play and be ready to wonder where the rest of the track is. Apparently, BB has an EP dropping tomorrow. You know I'll be on the lookout for that one if the rest of it is anything like this.
