Why do we like this?
Born Gold, graduating from the former band name Gobble Gobble, has found a way to schmear us all over with electronic sounds with their Bodysongs LP. They're one of the many bands pouring in from Canada to give us this interactive, dimensional take on electronica, as made evident in their live performances. Having never experienced Born Gold live, the only recommendation I can give to you is to go on their website, find their very next show date, buy a plane ticket there, and try not to blink the entire show for fear you may miss even a millisecond. Try to name your firstborn after something from that show.
"Lawn Knives," their first song off of this LP, has a giggling keyboard line with a paced background of static that keeps the song full of light noise, until the chorus of vocal harmonies come down with a frenzied reverberations of... god, what is that? If you can imagine raindrops that had an electrical charge and were falling on a tin roof, that's what Born Gold has gifted us with.
The rest of the Bodysongs doesn't let up in this overcharged mix of rhythm and dis-rhythmia. I'd like to gently admonish you to be careful; I bring you this music with a seizure warning. So plug in your headphones, tongue depressor in hand, and enjoy.
