Why do we like this?
“Otomo” is an ambient, downtempo, golden gem of electronica, courtesy of beat-master Simon Green, otherwise known as Bonobo. Making use of Bulgarian choral vocal samples and minimalist progressive tech beats, “Otomo” is a slightly more upbeat version of Bonobo’s signature sound, and carries a distinct Eastern-inspired edge. It’s expansive and atmospheric, juxtaposing perfectly quiet and still moments with jubilant, expressive peaks.
This track comes as a teaser ahead of the release of Bonobo’s new album, Fragments, due out early next year. It’s melodically infused with tribal-inspired energy, and a grooving breakbeat rhythm.
On the development of the track, Bonobo says in a statement:
“Melodically it was working well but needed a dynamic shift. I asked my friend O’Flynn for input. He sent it back with a dance floor ready drum section. It’s one of my favorites from the album.”
