Creativity is often spawned by removing yourself from your comfortable surroundings. This artist is a great example of the brilliance that can follow that path. Boats is the new project of Melbourne resident Blake Paterson, who began writing this music while abroad -- namely during his time in the two vastly different cities of Helsinki and Barcelona.
"Spider's Soul" definitely has two sides to it, icy and warm in parts, and introspective while still being laid-back. Hazy electronics are fused with live instrumentation to piece this interesting soundscape together, while Paterson's echoing vocals become one with the music. To create a song with this level of variety (without completely confusing the listener) shows wonderful talent, something that Paterson has in abundance.
Produced and mastered by fellow Melbourne whiz-kids Joshua Delaney and Andrei Eremin (respectively), the Boats project is in good hands. With his debut EP scheduled for release in the coming months, this mood-inducing producer is bound to win over plenty of music lovers all over the world.
