Why do we like this?
Blu continues his streak of independent and unexpected projects with Gods In The Spirit, an EP with Virginia producer Nottz.
"Boyz II Men" with Nitty Scott was leaked, but it's the latest loosie from the tape, "End Of The World," that really piques my interest in the project. Both artists are, in my opinion, respected but under-appreciated. Nottz has some of the meanest bass lines and drums in the game, so much so that he's been in demand from folks like Kanye West, Bustah Rhymes (repeatedly), and Bilal. Blu probably has has much technical skill as any on the mic in this time, though he is not afraid to venture off the beaten path.
After experimenting with less than usual manners of MCing, this collab with Nottz finds Blu spitting in the soulful, lyrical style his core fans seem to most adore. Nottz's beat sounds damn near like a gospel record and Rashad's Sunday morning harmonies might have you expecting a collection plate. It's refreshing to hear Blu sounding energized. Can't wait to hear the tape in full.
