Why do we like this?
Mysterious trio Black Vanilla (DJ Plead, Lips and Lockheart) have one mission in life: to get down. Formed from members of Collarbones and Guerre, your new "oligarchic overlords of the dance floor" have been playing together over the past few years. Now, they've finally had the time to release their first single, the stupidly sexy R&B anthem "Call Your Husband."
Having Marcus Whale (Collarbones) and Guerre singing hooks together was always going to sound great, but the smooth production -- staggered drum-machines and sampling -- gives this track the fluidity it needs. The somewhat tongue-in-cheek wittiness (I can't tell if the guys are being totally serious) makes it all the more enjoyable.
This first single is the precursor to Black Vanilla's Black on Black mixtape and an Australian tour -- and the first step towards achieving their dance-floor domination.
