Why do we like this?
Black Joe Lewis just announced today that they have a new record coming out this August entitled Electric Slave. It'll be their third release and seems to demonstrate that there is no slowing down for the Honeybears.
Their first album was a huge hit (Tell 'Em What Your Name Is! -- produced by Spoon's drummer Jim Eno), and the second just kept the party going (Scandalous), so it'll be interesting to see what they 3rd has in store.
"Skull Diggin'" is the first single, and if it's any indication to be trusted, then it looks like we'll be seeing a more aggressive style from Black Joe Lewis. The fuzzy bass sounds rock solid, and Lewis' screams are more ominous than previous tunes. When they cap off the song with a noisey guitar solo and then cruise back into the chorus of "Skull Diggin'," well, that's exactly why I like it.
