I serendipitously stumbled upon this track within the abyss of the internet late last night (when the best discoveries happen) and found myself immediately enthralled by Bishop's distinct sound. As such, I have a feeling "River" will be on heavy rotation for the next week or two.
The simplicity of the first verse is deceptive. It starts with a raw stomp/clap beat and Bishop’s silken vibrato, lulling you into a false sense of comfort before surprising you with the explosive chorus. A skillful mix of electronic percussion, soulful melody, and incendiary vocals, this track is saturated with unexpectedly harmonious elements.
Following her release of the trap infused "Wild Horses" this track relies less on a catchy hook and instead allows Bishop to showcase her powerfully versatile voice.
With less than 2,000 followers on SoundCloud, Bishop seems a well kept secret... for now. However, based on her unique brand of genre-blending, I’ll be vigilantly watching for future releases from this artist.
