Bishop Briggs (Formerly Bishop) is the L.A. powerhouse behind "Wild Horses" and the captivating "River," which also happens to be one of my very first Indie Shuffle reviews. She's a personal favorite of mine, so when this track landed in my inbox I was insanely excited.
It seems Bishop's music has grown increasingly unapologetic. With "Wild Horses" she was testing the waters with an alternative but approachable take on soul, while "River" showed a raw and commanding side of her music.
"The Way I Do" uses elements reminiscent of a congregation to preach painful truths about love. It incorporates bluesy samples, swelling organs, and even a background choir to support her vulnerable but compelling voice. The result is an emotive and vehement track bursting at the seams with unadulterated passion.
If you're not already a member of Bishop's congregation, it's time to convert. Follow her music on Facebook and Twitter.
