Burgeoning Melbourne favourite, Billy Davis, is carving out a name for himself with a number of highly celebrated tracks, but his latest may just be his best effort yet.
"Goldfish" is another soul-drenched dance floor filler combining the vocal talents of band member Khiarra Villalobosand and Florida rapper, Denzel Curry.
Curry and Davis met while Davis was touring with Kimbra (Davis is part of her live band) and decided to collaborate, and it's hard not to agree the results are spectacular.
"Goldfish" features the soulful female vocals of Villalobsosand complemented by Curry, who drops his regular aggressive rap style for a calmer, swagger filled rhyme delivery that suits the groovey tune.
Of the track itself, Billy Davis states;
"The biggest battle in the making of the album has been the battle against insecurity and people telling me I wasn't good enough. The song is almost a message to my past and future self encouraging them. It's one of my favourite on the album as it resonates a lot internally to me, it's gotten me through hard times in the past but will also be something I look back on with fondness when I listen back to it in the future. This song is for the underdog that needs that little push - the goldfish can knock out the shark!"
Davis new album A Family Portrait is set for release September 1.
