Last night Big Sean dropped "Control (HOF)," a seven minute hip-hop epic that's straight up heat. Cut from Sean's upcoming
Hall Of Fame album due to a No I.D. sample that couldn't be cleared, "Control (HOF)" has no chorus. Instead, it features guest verses from Kendrick Lamar and Jay Electronica over No I.D.'s booming beat.
Big Sean's opening stanza is unexpectedly enjoyable and Jay Electronica's subtle wordplay and social commentary is great as usual, but this one's all about Lamar. Spitting bars of fire, Kendrick warns his peers he is coming for the crown, and drops easily one of the best verses of 2013. I haven't heard Lamar this aggressive or boastful, and with this one verse he's set the bar high for the rest of the hip-hop community.
All hail King Kendrick.
