Why do we like this?
I was immediately taken as soon as I pressed play on Bent Shapes' single, "Hex Maneuvers."
The first thing I noticed was that although this song is categorized as "indie," to me it seems to have some qualities that are reminiscent of when indie first became a thing. This track has got a pop sensibility that draws you in; it's pleasant, somewhat simple, and quintessentially indie pop. What with the washed out guitars, obscure drums, pop-centric bass, repetitive guitar chords, and the guy/girl harmonies, the resemblance to indie's first days are undeniable.
Boston's Bent Shapes will be releasing their debut album, Feels Weird, on August 20. I'm definitely looking forward to it!
