Why do we like this?
As an ethereal folk sweetheart and long time favorite of mine, Benjamin Francis Leftwich rarely disappoints. Recently, he's been touring around in a somewhat rabid manner, making girls faint all across the UK, with plans to stage a US takeover very soon.
His latest masterpiece tackles the untouchable, as he throws his own airy twist over The Beatles' hit "With a Little Help From My Friends." Covering a Beatles track is no simple task -- when doing so you are:
- Setting yourself up for almost insurmountable scrutiny (The Beatles are the greatest band of all time, argue if you must - you will lose)
- Entering a 'cover' realm that is nothing original, thus working on a track that will ultimately provide no benefit
- Working towards a product that no matter how good, will never be better than the original
If you can swallow that, you're set to take sail, which is exactly what Ben did. What he produced (in a hotel room while on tour, mind you) is one of the more honest Beatles covers I've heard in a while.
