What better way to kick off the long weekend than with some new Ben Khan?
"Zenith" is his brand new track, the second off his forthcoming sophomore EP. It follows on from "1000" and, as expected, it's wonderful. While I remarked that "1000" signified a subdued shift away from the glistening, crystal clear synth-pop we heard on his first EP 1992, "Zenith" is kind of smack back in the middle.
The rich vocals are catchy and full of soul, while the beat immediately pulls you into a serious groove. Satisfyingly bluesy, while still bright and funky, it's really hard not to dance to this track.
I'm not sure if an artist with so few tracks can already be considered to have a 'signature sound,' but those warped, psych guitar-esque lines really have become my favourite part of Khan's music, even reminiscent of the late, great Darkside.
Ben Khan's new EP, 1000, will be dropping on May 11.
