I have been procrastinating about writing about Bella Porter for the past month for two reasons. 1) I'm a really bad procrastinator and that's not changing anytime soon. 2) She is such a talented singer and songwriter and I don't feel capable of putting the right words to accompany her music.
I've seen Bella perform in Los Angeles twice in the past month. She is an artist that can fill up a room with her voice, fill a room with smiles from her energy and stage banter, and leave a room full of jaws dropped from her vocal range. A new friend from the shows, Chase, called her performance "unworldly." Like I said, I don't have the aptitude for words on her music, but "unworldly" seems like a fair description.
Her song "Unlonesome Daughter" talks about her feelings during life on the road, which is fit for her as she has moved around, from Los Angeles to Seattle, followed by Seattle to Vermont, and returned from Vermont to Los Angeles in the span of a year. In the song she takes you on a picturesque journey through coastal Norway. The song has attitude, passion, and a freeing, healing essence.
