Why do we like this?

It's been quite some time since Beirut has graced us with a new album, but don't worry, my friends -- Kishi Bashi has gifted our ears with a gorgeous cover of "A Sunday Smile" off of Beirut's 2007 album, A Flying Club Cup.

If you have yet to sit down and check out this cover, let me just tell you that you are in for quite a treat. Bashi takes Beirut's knack for string instrumentals and seamlessly incorporates some striking alternatives with swelling violins and folky banjos, making it all come together in an audibly exquisite manner. Gone are the trumpets and the minimal beat backdrop of the original and in comes a man with a silky-smooth voice and a dedication to making beautiful melodies that transport you to another time.

This cover appears exclusively on his 7" 151a, click here for more info.
