The late 90s are heralded as a gilded age for underground rap, where indie MCs enjoyed robust budgets and substantial marketing efforts. While the ad dollars may not be where they once where, independent rap is as strong as it's ever been.
Beatnick Dee is a beatmaker based in L.A. by way of the UK and SF, and he's amassed an impressive resume in a few years. From Joe Scudda, Cashus King, and Blu, Dee is proliferating his chops throughout the underground to the point that he's about ready to drop his own LP.
Before doing so, Dee is opening his hard drive and unleashing cuts that didn't make previous projects. Today we're happy to premiere "Everything Unsaid" featuring two modern day indie MCs, Koncept and J57 of the Brown Bag All-Stars. Of "Everything Unsaid," Beatnick Dee says:
"The Brown Bag homies recorded this around late 2012. I had thought about using this song for my album, but it didn't quite fit with the progression I had made. Despite that, it kept it's longevity for me, so I wanted to put it out there for everyone to hear. They both dug deep and dropped some real, personal gems, which meshed well with the nostalgic vibe of the beat."
