Why do we like this?
It's probably a symptom of my musical ADD that with some regularity I'm known to throw down my headphones and exclaim "Oh my God, I hate all of my music!" While the hate may be hyperbole, getting into a listening funk is problematic when I'm expected to be recommending new music to people on a daily basis. While in one of these musical doldrums, I happened upon Beat Connection, who are giving away their debut EP, Surf Noir, for free starting tomorrow.
The EP begins with summery surf pop before switching to dance oriented pop for the remainder of the recording. The release starts stronger than it finishes, and some of the production and electronic composition is a bit amateurish, but all-in-all Beat Connection deserve big ups for the effort put into these eight tracks. I don't like the name of the band or the title of the EP, but this young energetic duo has potential.
