Why do we like this?
The beauty of this gig is that I get to discover new music too, thus, it's OK to admit I knew absotootly nothing about Bear In Heaven when I first heard this song (FYI they're a talented Brooklyn trio: Jon Philpot, Joe Stickney and Adam Wills). I chose to review this track because of the lyrical content.
The song reminds me of watching a random, late 80s movie, particularly the part where the star-crossed lovers are pining away for the other -- you know, simultaneous mundane scene after mundane scene (because in the late 80s/early 90s they had yet to figure out snappy editing.)
So, we're wiping tables at the dead-end diner job, we're kicking stones in the dirty river, and letting our hair blow on the over-pass while contemplating life and all that. "The Reflection of You" plays on the chords of our subconscious and the lyrics speak in that stream of consciousness sort of way, and a slow-churning revelation is eventually... passed on for foggy indecision. "There's nothing but a numbness between us," it says, "but hey, just dance with me. Maybe we'll feel something."
Their full length (aptly titled) I Love You, It's Cool, comes out in April.
