Why do we like this?
With only a year's separation between releases, Brooklyn's Beach Fossils wastes no time giving their fans what they want. Dropping February 22 via Captured Tracks, Beach Fossils newest 8-song EP titled What A Pleasure is bound to turn some heads and perk some ears.
Judging by the single "Calyer," the EP promises to offer more of the appealing reverb-soaked pop that can be found on their self-titled debut album. If you enjoyed that album's dense guitar riffs, you're going to like this EP. The hauntingly catchy and energetic beats that are looped behind Dustin Payseur's laidback vocals in tracks "Face It" and "Distance" offer a lighthearted atmosphere and perfect background music for a spring/summer roadtrip.
With the songwriting assistance of bassist John Pena and featured musical collaboration with Wild Nothing's Jack Tatum, this EP doesn't fall short in low-key psychedelia with faded vocals and interlocking guitar riffs. Although this EP shares qualities to what we've heard before, one thing that you can undeniably pick up on is the more mature and clean recordings found on What A Pleasure. Sure it's similar, but why deny it when it's so easy to love and sounds this pleasant?
