MC5,
Bear vs. Shark,
Fugazi
Why do we like this?
For those of us in the know, Bear vs. Shark was the best thing to happen to the late 90s/early 2000s post-hardcore scene. They re-established the Fugazi-like idea of challenging the status quo by melding genres that, until the proliferation of mashup remixes, would have never been amalgamated. Unfortunately, they broke up way too soon.
Nevertheless, many years after the release of Bear vs. Shark's critically acclaimed sophomore LP, Terrorhawk, two of its founding members, Marc Paffi and Brandon Moss, along with cohorts Ben Audette, Nick Jones, and Scotty Iulianelli of Wildcatting, found themselves back together creating and generating the same sort of game-changing tunes under the moniker Bars Of Gold.
Recently, the quintet released their sophomore LP, Wheels, on Bellyache Records to much fanfare. And deservedly so.
The track "Connected" is a testament to BOG's unwavering pride for their hometown of Detroit, Michigan, with its warm backing vocals and encapsulating orchestration. So, if you are looking for a band that embraces challenging the listener and themselves to think outside the proverbial box, then Bars of Gold's eclectic sound is just the thing to bowl you over.
