Baobab, oh Baobab, I'm so glad I found you. You have gotten me really excited for spring. Of course, since you're from Durham, North Carolina it's probably already almost spring there but for me, your music is awakening an anticipated preparedness for the new season to come.
Lately when I've woken up in the morning, I'll hear doves cooing to each other outside, amongst other tiny birds, and that's a sure sign of spring. It always makes me happy when I hear that, and now that I've found Baobab, the combination of this music and those morning birds are just making me ache for spring.
Baobab's single, "Spring Forward," is complex, hypnotizing, and pleasantly trippy. Layered vocals, looped electronic effects, a xylophone, and guitar, amongst many other layers, envelope my ears and uplift my soul. Sure there's A LOT going on within Baobab's songs but the execution is pristinely arranged and therefore very tasteful.
This type of music would be suitable for a children's fairy tale or an adult's cathartic adventure of life's pleasure. If you like what you hear, go ahead and pick up their debut self-titled album in which the album cover is handmade by Baobab using colored paper, recycled cardboard, and other found materials. How can you resist?!
