It's been little over a year since Banks released her first EP, Fall Over, but the L.A.-based singer/songwriter has already left quite the impression on the music world. A string of critically lauded performances (including at SXSW and Coachella) and tracks such as "Waiting Game" and "Brain" left audiences across the world eager to hear more of her masterfully dark brand of alternative R&B. The wait is now over, as Banks has revealed new track "Goddess," as well as announcing the release of her debut album of the same name on September 9.
"Goddess," however, features Banks in a different frame of mind from her previous releases. While her earlier singles matched delicate melodies with lovelorn lyrics, this new track opens in defiant fashion, with fierce coos of "she's a goddess, you never got this."
The production (courtesy of former collaborator Lil Silva) is expertly subdued, with hazy synths and glitchy bass parts allowing Banks' stunning vocals to take center stage. It's the perfect track with which to announce the upcoming album -- offering enough to keep fans satisfied, while at the same time maintaining her enthralling mystique.
Goddess is available for pre-order here and is surely one of the most hotly anticipated new releases of 2014.
