I've been watching Lido for a while now, particularly after hearing his "Ain't No Sunshine" remix. The first time I heard that song, I had a very physical reaction -- one that could not be contained, and thankfully, one that happened within the safety of my own house. For lack of better wording, I freaked out. That's one of my favorite songs and I was wary to hear it chopped up. But here's the thing -- some artists are capable of giving us a visceral reaction before we even have a chance to process what's going on.
That's exactly what continues to happen whenever I hear something from Lido. The consistency of his sound blows my mind, particularly because it isn't just another electro banger that you'll hear in a DJ set. It's deliberate.
You can't even begin to imagine what those plucking strings did to me in the first 20 seconds of this track. As a classically trained violinist, I've always had a soft spot for the combination and juxtaposition of strings with electronic elements and production. It's the meeting of two of my favorite things in one place. This remix is delicate. Refined. Every step has been carefully thought out, from the strings, to the hand claps, to the chopped up/dropped down vocals. All of it.
This Norwegian producer's EP is expected to release on June 23, and you can pre-order/support here.
