My first thoughts upon hearing London- based indie quartet Bambi was how similar they sound to UK greats Echo And The Bunnymen. Much like the Liverpool legends, Bambi incorporate post-punk guitar licks with plenty of reverb and melodies, and when combined with frontman James Gonsalves' vocal tones, Bambi has the feel of a band who would have been at home at the Hacienda during its glory days.
But there's much more to latest single "Reap From The Dying Love" than the Bunnymen comparisons. While the influence of the 80s English sound is audible, there's a real freshness to what they are doing. In essence, "Reap From The Dying Love" is everything that's right about the current indie movement, with heartfelt lyrics and head spinning melodies paying homage to the past while simultaneously invigorating the modern scene.
Bambi are ones to watch.
