Don't let the subdued atmosphere fool you: Azekel's new track "Mad About The Boy" is about as non-minimal as it gets.
There's a lot going on here -- so much so, that I'd recommend you listen to this track a handful of times in a row. While the staccato beats might give the impression that there's room to breathe between each layer, there's not. And while that doesn't always work to a song's advantage, I think Azekel does a wonderful job on this track.
The rhythm is punchy, and the beat can be difficult to follow, but the track is so good that it's not a deterrent. In spite of its strange flow, the beat is catchy, cool, and a lot of fun. The vocals, as always, steal the spotlight for me -- his rich, sensual tone is endlessly seductive. Not only does it draw in the listener, but it pulls together the many loose instrumental strings, creating a really great track with that melody at the helm.
The track features on Azekel's upcoming EP, Raw Vol. 1, due for release on July 12 through Thunderlighting Recordings.
