London producer Azekel has just released "Chronophobia," a bass-heavy follow up to July’s "New Romance."
Opening with echoed hums and a basic beat, I had no idea what was about to happen. But as soon as Azekel’s voice came in, I was transported. His vocals are heavenly, ethereal, and captivating. Soulful, rich, and melodically elastic, it’s almost hard to focus on anything going on behind the melody.
What is there, is a deep, dark, vibrating bass – the perfectly brooding complement to that angelic melody. There’s a lot of space between the two, through which a piano and trumpet begin to shine. Both instruments add seductive jazz licks here and there, subtle chords and eerie harmonies throughout.
"Chronophobia" is set to be part of a forthcoming release, hopefully dropping early 2015.
