I've always had a soft spot for indie folksters The Avett Brothers. From their humble bluegrass and folk-tinged beginnings, to their later country and Southern rock-influenced sound and current nu-folk flavor, the North Carolina ensemble have been putting out top notch albums for over a decade. Then there's their live show, which is about as close to seeing Crosby, Stills & Nash (and Young if you'll let me) as I'll ever get.
This month sees the release of their eighth album,
Magpie And The Dandelion, with everyone's favorite bearded producer Rick Rubin once again behind the boards. "Another Is Waiting" is the first look we've had from the album, and it's rather mellow, with Scott Avett's playful banjo plucking easily identifiable alongside brother Seth's nimble chord progression.
"Another Is Waiting" has much more of a pop sound than I'd hoped. It took a few listens, but I'm fully around it now. Do yourself a favor and check out some of their older material
here.
