In 2013, Autre Ne Veut released the stunning electro/synth album Anxiety. I still listen to it regularly, and I was lucky enough to catch him live in early 2014. Since then, I've been (im)patiently waiting for new music for the New York-based artist, real name Arthur Ashin.
Finally, the day has arrived. "World War Pt. 2" is gorgeous and unnerving. Ashin's vocals absolutely astound me. Unique, passionate, and structurally beautiful, the track has a power and direction that is making me so excited for his upcoming album.
"World War Pt 2" comes with one hell of video clip, which you should absolutely watch. In the words of video director BANGS (Allie Avital), the track – and video – aimed to create “a metaphor for the many burdens we carry with us.”
Ashin stands in a large, bared house, naked. A fairly terrifying, similarly naked figure clings to him, nails digging into his flesh, with a frightfully hollow look in it’s eyes. It’s visceral to the point of upsetting – it’s certainly going to make some people uncomfortable.
Autre Ne Veut's new album Age of Transparency will be released on October 2.
