I recently posted Sydney duo AtOlla's new single "Arctic Gazing," and now we've got the follow-up, "Aurora." It's everything you were hoping for and more.
The single continues on from the otherworldly "Arctic Gazing," although instead of emulating space-age shoegaze, it combines a kind of gothic post-punk sound with downtempo synth pop.
It's a really interesting track with a lot of fascinating contradictions. While the atmosphere is sweeping and ambient, it somehow feels sparse and intimate throughout. While the floaty, ethereal vibes are still there, there's something a lot darker and more grounded at play.
Singer-songwriter Matilda Stephanie and songwriter-producer James Santos will be releasing their upcoming EP, Lucille, later in the month. It's the third and final in a series of EPs, the first two being Ophelia and Ayapaneco.
