Astre, spinning gold from a somber, soft, technological-laced atmosphere, cuts out his own slice of electronic heaven through "Shades."
Kevin Blu's voice, as it cuts through the ether in desperation to be heard, understood, or to have his vulnerability acknowledged, is welded into rolling sequences of enveloping soundscapes. Astre, at the head of the ship, steers the body into these otherworldly waters as he decides to go against genre expectations to carve his name into the shore of an island which hasn't seen anyone for ages.
Exquisitely individual, "Shades" stands out because its purpose isn't to make you lose your mind at a drop, but just to have you experience something pleasantly left field. In many ways, it's as anti-future anything you can dream of: specifically aiming to dwell on a vibe, almost like a soundtrack, instead of building and building into lucrative successions of bass and synth patterns.
It will be interesting to see where this road takes the latest addition to the Moving Castle family - and what it could perhaps do to internet based subgenres moving forward.
