Why do we like this?
Here's a fun little fact: 20-year-old Ãsgeir Trausti's debut album Dyrd I Daudathogn was the fastest selling album ever released by an Icelander in Iceland, with around 10% of the population getting hold of it. Sure, the country's population is just barely over 300,000 -- but that's still a pretty good ratio!
Ãsgeir's music has slowly been creeping toward the rest of Europe, recently hopping across the water to land on Zane Lowe's desk at BBC Radio 1. And now it's in my hands as I write this from Barcelona, sharing it with all of you throughout the world :-)
"King And Cross" caught my attention for the myriad of styles it captures in its 3:34 span. While I had initially expected a folk track, it becomes quickly apparent that Ãsgeir has a lot more up his sleeves -- somewhere between a Kings of Convenience and Passion Pit hybrid.
The song is set to be released via One Little Indian on August 13th along with a B-side titled "Lupine Intrigue."
