Sometimes, we can feel things coming. Like a wave, watched growing above us. But sometimes, the crash comes unannounced.

Arlo Parks' "Softly" details the brace before the blow that is the cracking of a relationship. Soft keys, light percussion, and Arlo's well-renowned breathy vocals take center stage — delicate before the punch of the chorus kicks in. Similar to the onslaught of feelings that arrive on the back of a breakup following the quiet dissonance that precedes it.
