Why do we like this?
Ariela Jacobs is a young artist starting to gain some recognition for her emotive, intelligent storytelling. Just 22 years old, you might recognize the Melbourne-based Jacobs' gorgeous vocals from Goldroom's electro pop hit "Embrace," which we featured a couple of months back. The dancey collaboration wasn't what she's become known for, however, with folk pop being her first point of call.
Released a couple of weeks back, "The Sound" is a simple but truly beautiful single. Like all good singer/songwriters, the lyrics are clearly the highlight, backed only by some bright guitar chords and foot-stomping percussion to drive it along. She has an amazing tool in her falsetto vocals, and she sure knows how to use it!
There's a debut EP due out early next year, so stay tuned for more from this talent, but in the meantime, you can download "The Sound" (as well as her earlier single "False Alarms") for free at Triple J Unearthed.
