For his first solo release in nearly three years, the always interesting Ariel Pink slows things down a little with “Another Weekend.”
An artist known as much for his controversial unpredictability as his catchy dream-pop melodies, Pink surprises us with a sweet, serene, and easy tune. The song feels like a departure from the colorful and excessive sounds of his backlog, but Pink still shows us his natural musical instincts with a slightly unconventional composition that makes me wonder if he is trading his attention-grabbing antics for some softer introspection.
Since the release of his much-loved 2014 album pom pom, Ariel Pink has spent the last 3 years collaborating with Miley Cyrus, making an EP with Weyes Gold, and pissing off celebrities like Madonna and Grimes. Never a stranger to controversy, Pink has always been one to keep an eye on. After the release of the "Another Weekend" 7” via Mexican Summer, we’ll be looking forward to seeing what’s next.
